New Suqui bridge in Calapan City to decongest traffic

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Jan 26 (PIA) — As part of its flagship program, the city government is constructing a new bridge in Barangay Suqui that would serve as a diversion and alternate route from the trafficked areas in the city proper.

The new project will be two-lane and will replace the existing one-lane Suqui bridge. The cost of the construction of the new bridge is approximately Php10.9 million funded under the Local Development Fund.

City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan says the new Suqui bridge will accommodate more traffic which can be diverted to the Suqui-Parang-Palhi-Sapul-Bayanan roads decongesting vehicle build-ups in the major thoroughfares especially during rush hours.

Construction of the new bridge will begin soon. In preparation, the old bridge has been closed to traffic since Tuesday with a temporary detour for light vehicles. Heavy trucks are advised to use alternate roads. (VSM/LTC/PIA-Mimaropa/Calapan)

(CPRSD/LTC/PIA-Mimaropa/Calapan)
