50 surrenderees complete DOH-Mimaropa rehab program

QUEZON CITY, July 17 (PIA) — Fifty drug surrenderees graduated from the rehabilitation program managed by the Department of Health-Mimaropa in Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro.

“All 50 enrollees in the Advance Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation program are now negative for illegal drugs in their body. They will be regularly monitored and assessed in order for them to avoid having a relapse,” said Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo during a simple ceremony at the municipal hall.

The new graduates raised the number of successful rehabilitation to 89.

The Advance Intensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Program is a one-month out-patient treatment composed of behavioral counseling, medication, evaluation and treatment for occurring mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

The program also includes yoga exercises and ancient Indian holistic healing system called Ayurveda.

Ayurveda has a complete detoxification process called Pancha Karma designed to treat the core roots of illness and restore optimal health.

“The objective of the program is to bring back these patients to main stream society by giving them purpose to move forward to a more productive life and provide them alternative means of livelihood to ensure that they will not revert from their old ways of peddling illegal substances in the streets,” Director Janairo said.

With the use of telemedicine system, surrenderees were able to consult psychologists or psychiatrists in Metro Manila in real time.

“We will continue to coordinate with the local governments of the region to further strengthen and increase the coverage of the program to be able to reach out to other municipalities in the region”, Director Janairo said. (LP/DOH/PIA4B)
