CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, June 13 (PIA) – The province of Oriental Mindoro headed by Gov. Alfonso V. Umali, Jr. celebrated the 119th Philippine Independence Day today at the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Calapan City.
The celebration started at exactly 8:00AM with a Flag Raising Ceremony led by Gov. Umali and Vice Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor, along with employees of the Provincial Capitol and national government agencies, particularly the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Right after the flag raising ceremony, all employees proceeded to the Bulwagang Panlalawigan Hall to hold a simple program focusing on this year’s theme, “KALAYAAN 2017 Pagbabagong Sama-samang Balikatin.”
In his speech, Provincial Administrator Nelson B. Melgar emphasized the principles of this year’s celebration of independence which he associated to three important things: Kalayaan, Kasarinlan and Karapatan.
On the other hand, Vice Gov. Dolor in his speech, discussed the meaning and the root words of each phrase specified on the theme.
The “pagbabago” (change) which he said is very resistant to accept by almost everyone, but that is significant to happen as he further underscored. The “sama-samang” (joined together) has been an important factor to accomplish task and the last phrase “balikatin” (to shoulder) is a way to handle things using the shoulder especially if the task is too heavy.
