QUEZON CITY, June 1 (PIA) — The Western Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is strenghtening partnerships with various sectors in Palawan to ensure public safety throughout the province.
Wescom Commander Lieutenant General Raul Del Rosario met recently with yacht owners and discussed the measures being implemented to discourage terroristic or kidnap for ransom activities.
Palawan is not under Martial Law, but Wescom, the Philippine National Police (PNP), including its maritime groups, the Philippine Coast Guard, local governments and other allied organizations, have been on alert throughout the summer vacation period to ensure the security of both local communities and tourists.
This was weeks ahead before some foreign embassies issued travel advisories on Palawan after authorities foiled an Abu Sayyaf activity in Bohol. In an interview with Radyo ng Bayan last weekend, Tourism Assistant Secretary Ricky Alegre hailed the efforts of the military and police for keeping Palawan safe.
He added that despite the travel advisories, Palawan’s popular tourist destinations were filed with visitors.
Asec Alegre said the public must know the efforts of law enforcers to bring areas of conflict back to business just like what the military is doing in Marawi City. (LP/Wescom/PBS-DZRB)
