CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, May 19 (PIA) – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Mimaropa recently turned over the management of its two irrigation projects namely, Sta. Maria Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) and Dike Apitong Communal Irrigation System (CIS) to the Samahang Magpapatubig ng Apitong and Sta. Maria Inc. Irrigators Association (IA) in Brgy. Apitong, Naujan.
The turnover of NIA’s projects to the beneficiaries is part of its mandate for the beneficiaries to take charge and maintain the projects for their own benefits.
Specifically, the Sta. Maria CIP, amounting to P3.6 million will benefit 96 farmers of Brgy. Sta. Maria and will irrigate some 120 hectares of ricefields while Dike Apitong CIS, amounting to P11 million will benefit 83 farmers of Brgy. Apitong and this will irrigate 80 hectares of ricefields.
Top officials from NIA led the inauguration and turnover ceremonies. Present also were Naujan Mayor Mark N. Marcos, Oriental Mindoro Board Member Jojo Perez, and Brgy. Chairmen Teodorico G. Gupit and Carmelo G. Gupit, respectively.
Engr. Lowell Lozano, head of NIA Provincial Office conveyed NIA’s appreciation towards the cooperation and participation of all concerned in the completion and success of the irrigation projects in Oriental Mindoro. (AVGB/LTC/PIA-Mimaropa/Calapan)
