GLORIA, Oriental Mindoro, Feb 3 (PIA) – The group of corn planters who are members of the Samahan ng Magmamais sa Katimugang Mindoro (SAMAKAMI) and the Manubay Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (MARBA) celebrated their long awaited time of harvesting corn in Brgy. Malubay recently.
Dubbed as “Harvest Festival,” member beneficiaries of the association joined in the actual harvesting in the wide plantation of corn located in the said area. The theme of the festival is “Samahan Kaagapay ng Pamahalaan sa Programan Pagmamaisan Tungo sa Maunlad na Pamayanan.”
According to Sammy V. Villacorta, Samakami President, the plantation covers the idle land of an estimated 20 hectares. The project of the organization was realized through the efforts exerted by its members with the aid coming from the local government of Gloria, Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro, Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), among other national government agencies.
In his message, Gloria Mayor German D. Rodegerio promised that aids in terms of financial, technical and machinery would be provided to the organizations. He encouraged all members of the organization to be more productive for the sustenance of all their projects in the future.
Likewise, DA Mimaropa Development Management Officer V Ronnie F. Panoy said that DA is willing to provide any assistance or technical support, on the conditionthat the association would make a project proposal to justify their request.
The project was also aided by DAR Provincial Office as it is currently providing technical assistance to SAMAKAMI members and at the same time they are members of the MARBA. According to Derk Lloyd Cabuhal of DAR, they are continuously supporting existing projects of any organization in Oriental Mindoro more particularly on agrarian reform beneficiaries.
Among the participants from the government who witnessed the Harvest Festival were the representatives from the Office of the Governor, Office of the Vice-Governor, LGU-Gloria, DA Mimaropa, Provincial Agriculturist, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Philippine Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade, Provincial Information Office (PIO) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
