BRP Tubbataha holds commissioning rites today

QUEZON CITY, October 13 (PIA) — The Philippine Coast Guard is set to hold the commissioning rites for BRP Tubbataha during the celebration of their 115th Anniversary at afternoon today.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was invited as guest speaker.

BRP Tubbataha is the Philippines’ first multi-role response vessel (MRRV) and named after a lighthouse in Tubbataha Reefs in Cagayancillo, Palawan.

Expected to be deployed in Palawan, a MRRV like the BRP Tubbataha can be used for rescue operations and serve as staging areas for relief operations.

BRP Tubbataha can assist in the implementation of maritime laws including environment protection (illegal fishing and pouching) and pollution control as well as for transport of personnel and sea patrol. (Lyndon Plantilla/PIA4B)
