ODIONGAN, Romblon, May 4 (PIA) —The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)– Region IV-B conducted a Seminar/Workshop on Food Safety and current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) on April 26-27, 2016 at the Community Outreach Center of Romblon State University.
The 72 participants were mostly micro small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food manufacturing sector, sanitary inspectors and Hotel and Restaurant Management instructors in the province of Romblon.
In his message, Assistant Regional Director Rodolfo J. Mariposque enlightened the participants of the importance of the activity.
During the two-day seminar, the speaker Engr. Menandro B. Ortego discussed important topics relating to food safety including Factors that Affect Competitiveness of Food Hazards, Food Preservation Principles, Requirements to Meet Food Safety Demands, etc. He also explained the current GMP to increase productivity and standardize the operation of our MSMEs.
Ortego is a graduate of Master of Science in Food Quality Management from Wageningen University Research centrum in Wageningen, The Netherlands. He is currently the Head of Business Management Training Services Division of the Philippine Trade Training Center.
The group also visited a food establishment which the owner volunteered for an on-site audit and inspection.
